8270 holiness, as set apart for God

Believers are holy, in that they are called to be set apart from the world as God’s own people. Likewise certain days and articles are holy because they are set apart for God alone.

The Purpose of Salvation, The Result of Sin

The FIRST EPISTLE OF PETER CHAPTER ONE VERSES FOURTEEN TO SIXTEEN

SAVLVATION PRODUCES HOLINESS

PASTOR/TEACHER CHARLES e. WHISNANT

THE PURPOSE OF SALVATION IS THAT SALVATION WILL PRODUCE HOLINESS IN US

100_2517

1A WHAT IS SALVATION:

1B Salvation means being rescued from jeopardy and misery, so that one is now safe. Exodus 52:2; Jonah 2:9 and Psalms 116:6

2B Salvation from sin and its consequences.

3B Salvation has three tenses

1C from sin’s guilt (the past aspect, exposure to penalty is gone)

2C from its power (the present aspect: sin no longer rules us

3C from its presence (the future aspect: sin will one day be no more than a bad memory.)

4B Christians have been saved from:

1C from the wrath of God (Romans 5:9; 1 Thess. 1:10

2C from eternal death: Romans 6:21 and 23

3C from the dominion of sin: Romans 6:14, 18

4C from the life of fear: Romans 8:15

5C from controlling habits of ungodliness and immorality: Titus 2:12

Christians will one day be fully conformed to Jesus in body and moral character: Philippians 3:20 and I John 3:2.

5B While we live in joyful favor with God, we serve out of a gratitude of worship, there is this indwelling sin. But through the energy of the Holy Spirit we gain victory: Romans 5:12; 12:1; 8:14; Galatians 5:16. Romans 7:24 and 8:23.

6B The Desire For Holiness:

For the moment the ability for holiness exceeds our ability. God’s does give us salvation, and we are into our salvation, but salvation is not yet fully into us. We have a taste, but the full effect is yet future.

7B Salvation Gives Us The Following

1C Forgiveness, justification, reconciliation, pardon, acceptance, standing, fellowship. John 5:24 and Romans 8:32-39.

2C Salvation also put us in Christ: called “union with Christ.”. Romans 5:12-19  Ephesians 4:20-24 and Colossians 1:27; 5:4.

3C Our life as a moral person is super naturalized by the Holy Spirit which makes the presence of Christ “to us”, and reproduces in us the what God’s gives us:

1D The desires, aims, attitudes, and behavior patterns that we see in Jesus Christ.

2A THE PURPOSE OF OUR SALVATION: BECAUSE OF SIN

1B The question is why do we need salvation: Note: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vbydx95tVQhttp://cwhisna.blogspot.com/ Martyn Lloyd Jones gives a great reason why we need salvation.

2B The Definition of Sin

1C Any want of conformity unto, or transgression of, the law of God.

2C It is an energy, an obsession, an allergic reaction to God’s law, an irrational anti-God syndrome.

3C Our very nature is driven toward self-gratification.

4C Here is sin in action: it is nonconformity to God in several ways:

     1D rebellion against God.

2D transgression of the bounds God’s sets for us.

3D missing the mark God has told us to aim at.

4D defiling oneself in the sight of God

5C Sin: The mind of sinful man is death. its hostile to God, It do not submit to God’s law, nor can the mind do so. Romans 8:6-8.

3B The Bible is like a mirror for self-knowledge, that is the Bible shows us ourselves as we are.

4B “No smokescreen of religiosity can save us from sin.”

5B Do all people know that they are sinners? Yes and No. All people know where are not they obey God or reject His ways. And as result they don’t believe they are sinners. All people have a certain amount of knowledge of God, thus they are without excuse: Romans 1:18-32.

A Study in Holiness: Notes

FIRST PETER CHAPTER ONE: FOURTEEN TO SIXTEEN

TAKE A LOOK AT THE ASPECT OF HOLINESS

Charles e Whisnant, Teacher, Learner, Expositor

December 04, 2013

1A HOLINESS HAS TO DO WITH MY HEART

The heart of motivation The seat of passion the spring of all thought processes and conscience.

Holiness is always the saved sinner’s response of gratitude for grace received.

2A HOLINESS HAS TO DO WITH MY TEMPERAMENT

The factors that make specific ways of reacting and behaving natural to me.

Its what inclines me to transact with my environment (situations , things, people.

Its the raw material out of which temperament is formed..

Character is what we do with our temperament. Personality is the final produce.

3A HOLINESS HAS TO DO WITH MY HUMANNESS

Jesus model for us human goodness. What is that? Human live lived as God intend. Where the human person is completely united in God honoring and nature fulfilling way.

  1. It is the reverse of secular humanism.
  2. Genuine holiness is genuine Christ-likeness , and genuine Christ likeness is genuine humanness, the only genuine humanness there is.
  3. Love in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ and others
  4. Humility and meekness under the Divine hand
  5. Integrity of behavior expressing interrogation of character
  6. Wisdom with faithfulness
  7. Sorrow at people’s sin
  8. Joy at the Father’s goodness
  9. Single mindedness in seeking to please the Father, morning, noon and night
  10. Christians are meant to become human as Jesus was human. Called to imitate the character of Christ.

4A HOLINESS HAS TO DO WITH MY RELATIONSHIPS

Holiness is not isolationism, but relationship. Not detached from ordinary human involvement.

Its not becoming materialistic, extravagant or a grabber and empire builder,

But must operate as a servant of God in the world,

HOLINESS IS A NUMBER OF THINGS:

  1. Both outward and inward \aspect
  2. A matter of both action and motivation
  3. Conduct and character
  4. Divine grace and human effort
  5. Obedience and creativity
  6. Submission and imitative
  7. Conservation to God and commitment to people
  8. Self discipline and self giving
  9. Righteousness and love
  10. A matter of Spirit-led keeping
  11. A walk, of conduct of life
  12. In the Spirit that displays the fruit of the Spirit
  13. It is a matter of seeking to imitate Jesus way of behaving
  14. It is a matter of patient, persistent unrighteousness
  15. Taking God’s side against sin in our own lives and in lives of others.
  16. Of worshiping God in the Spirit as one serves Him in the world.
  17. Single-mindedness, wholehearted
  18. Free and glad concentration in the business of pleasing God
  19. It is the distinctive form and so to speak, flavor of a live set apart from God that is now being inwardly renewed by His power.
  20. Holiness is thus the demonstration of faith, working by love.
  21. Therefore it is whole supernatural in the sense of being God’s gracious achievement within us, and wholly natural in the sense of being our own true humanness.

How then are we to be holy? Peter gives us several directives.

  1. We are to be holy in all our conduct. Holiness is not to be compartmentalized into certain “religious” areas of our life. Holiness is a way of life that affects everything we do. Holiness is a lifestyle, rather than mere conformity to a list of rules.
  2. We are to be holy by not being conformed to our former lusts. Holiness is a lifestyle which differs dramatically from our manner of life before we were saved . Leviticus 18:1-8. Romans 123:1-2; Romans 1:21-25; Romans 6:16; Ephesians 4:17-24, 2 Peter 2:12-13; I Corinthians 9:24-27;
  3. We are to be holy by imitating God. We are to be holy because God is holy (see above). We are also to be holy as God is holy. As Jesus once put it,“Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). I John 3:1-12
  4. We are to be holy by obeying God’s Word. Romans 8:1-4; I Corinthians 2:6-16

The Jews Missed The Meaning of Holiness Luke 3

THE JEWS MISSED THE MEANING OF HOLINESS

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 08 2013

Charles e Whisnant, Pastor/Teacher, Preacher

Please open your bible today to Luke 3:21-22. What does God want us to learn today?

bible eyeglasses good

ROMANS 10: 3 ‘THEY” Being the Jewish people “BEING IGNORANT OF GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNES>” Which seems impossible doesn’t it? How could they not have seen just how righteous God was and is. THE DOCTRINE OF GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Now remember what we’ve been learning. In the book of Romans Paul is endeavoring to present the gospel of justification by grace through faith. In other words, he’s presenting how to be right with God, how to have a relationship with God, And he’s presented that…a man becomes right with God through faith, God’s grace reaches out and the man responds by faith.

The Jews, however, have rejected this.

They have rejected Christ. They have rejected the gospel. They have, for the most part, rejected the preaching of the Apostles. And Paul knows that if he is to make any points with his teaching, he’s going to have to deal with this unbelief of Israel.

He’s got to explain it somehow because unknowing and unwitting people are going to say, “Well how can we believe this is true if the Jews who are God’s people don’t believe it’s true?” So he must discuss the unbelief of Israel as a defense of the validity of the doctrine of justification by grace through faith. He’s got to explain the unbelief of Israel.

And so this is not some incidental text, this is the heart of his argument, this is the apologetic.

If the gospel is really true then you better tell us why the people of God have rejected it…the ones who have always received God’s law, the ones who have written down God’s law, who have preserved God’s law, who are the people of the covenant and the people of promise…if they reject it then you better tell us how that can happen if it’s really God’s message. And that’s exactly what he does. But that’s only the first half.

The first reason to explain Israel’s unbelief is God’s sovereignty.

The second one is Israel’s willful ignorance. And the two always go together…they always go together, they’re always in perfect harmony, concurrence and balance that where you have God rejecting a person, being it an Esau or a Pharaoh or whoever else they might represent you will also have in that person willful ignorance and unbelief.

One does not exist without the other. God doesn’t just damn people apart from their own choices, they act in concurrence.

And remember last time I told you five things that we need to note.

They were ignorant of the person of God, They were ignorant of the provision of Christ, They were ignorant of the place of faith, They were ignorant of the perimeters of salvation and They were ignorant of the predictions of Scripture.

Romans 10:3 For not knowing (50) about God’s righteousness(1343) and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. (NASB:

They did not know the way that God makes people right with him. And they tried to make themselves right in their own way. So they did not accept God’s way of making people right. (ICB: Nelson) For they, being, ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God..” kjv

The Jews failed to see the Holiness of God.…… They either refused to believe, or they were ignorant of the importance of knowing who God was.

If a person doesn’t understand God’s rightness, that is the supreme ignorance. If we imagine that God is less than He is, we have made a fatal mistake because we find God less than perfect, therefore He tolerates sin and imperfection, therefore we’re going to be okay if we just improve a few things…fatal mistake…fatal mistake.

Some verses in the O.T. About this matter of the holiness of God

Romans 10 Lev Holiness

Leviticus 18 and 19 Called the law of holiness where God lays down the principles for society and for morality within society. Would we heed those in our current society today. And all these are His perfect expressions of His absolute purity. And He always sets Himself as the standard and this is what is so great about Leviticus that Dorothy and most of you find so hard to get into. Either did the Jews it seems. I am going to look in Leviticus 19 “Laws of Holiness and Justice.

How to Spell ‘Holy’ (Leviticus 19:1-37)

  1. Leviticus chapter 19 provides us with an exposition on the practice of holiness. The holiness of God is thus revealed in relationship to the redemption of Israel out of Egypt. Consequently, it is not until after the exodus that God calls upon His people to live holy lives. The Mosaic Covenant is established so that Israel would be a holy nation (Exod. 19:6). While there are hints at how holiness is to be practiced by the people of God earlier in the Pentateuch, it is in the 19th chapter of the Book of Leviticus that holiness is defined in great detail.

    1. First, it is important because of the distorted perceptions of holiness.

    2. Second, Leviticus 19 is vitally important because of the desperate need for the practice of holiness.

    3. Third, many sincere Christians have gone astray seeking an unholy holiness.

    4. Fourth, Leviticus 19 is important to us because of the prominence of its teaching in the New Testament.

The Necessity of Holiness
  1. The necessity of holiness is found in the first primary commandment: “You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy” (Lev. 19:2). Note the following factors relative to this command.

    1. The necessity of holiness is seen by the fact that the entire nation of Israelite is commanded to be holy.

2. The command also provides a motivation for holiness.

3. There is also a provision for the holiness which God required of His people

4. God Himself provided the pattern for holiness
