Why We Preach/Teach from the Expositional  Position

We believe teaching the Word of God is to teach the Word of God from the Text.  Too many preachers say the preach the Word of God when in reality they preach what they want to say about what the believe is in the Bible.  What we try to do is allow the text : for example: Romans 13 or Luke 6 verses 1-6 be the sermon.  What is the verses tell us.

PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY AT RIVERS OF JOY BAPTIST CHURCH

Since July 2008 when Charles e Whisnant, became the pastor/teacher the focus of ministry changed.  The church is a Eldership lead church body of believers. This was the desire of the Past

The primary focus of the church is on the worship and the teaching of the Word of God.  Pastor Charles is an expositor of the Bible. Primary he teaching from a book in the New Testament.  Our worship service primary is on the teaching of God’s word.  We have wonderful singing, we try to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. We do not give an “altar call” (some call a public call for people to come to an altar).  We give a call throughout the sermon for the Holy Spirit to lead and direct each believer to obey the teaching of the Word.

 We have the Lord’s Supper once a month.

Pastor Charles believes his primary task is to teach the Word of God from the Bible in its context and not out of context.  (We don’t chase rabbits)

We have four opportunities to hear the preaching and teaching the Bible.

The main focus is to disciple believers to know the Word of God and to live in obedience to the will of the Lord. We believe in Lordship salvation. We believe in the Doctrines of Grace. We believe the salvation of mankind is by God alone and not of works.  We believe that we need to preach the whole gospel to the unsaved and to the believers.

We believe the book of Revelation  is literal, and God is going to give back to Christ earth and He is going to rule for ever.
