DO WE HAVE A PERFECT BIBLE?

While in a conversation with some good kjv 1611 folks and expressing my thoughts, one of the fellows ask me to answer ten questions if I was so smart.

Here is a list of the ten questions. While I have studied this issue many times over the years, I again took time to do a little more research on this topic.

Now I fully realize that I am not going to change anyone mind, (not even my father in law’s mind). And having read both sides of this issue I know what I believe and that is what I have come to believe.

1. Since you’re smart enough to find “mistakes” in the KJV, why don’t you correct them all and give us a perfect Bible?

2. Do you have a perfect Bible?

3. Since you do believe “the Bible” is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice, could you please show us where Jesus, Peter, James, Paul, or John ever practiced your terminology (“the Greek text says…the Hebrew text says….the originals say…a better rendering would be….older manuscripts read….” etc.)?

4. Since you do not profess to have a perfect Bible, why do you refer to it as “God’s word”?

5. Remembering that the Holy Spirit is the greatest Teacher (John 16:12-15; I John 2:27), who taught you that the King James Bible was not infallible, the Holy Spirit or man?

6. Since you do believe in the degeneration of man and in the degeneration of the world system in general, why is it that you believe education has somehow “evolved” and that men are more qualified to translate God’s word today than in 1611?

7. There is one true God, yet many false gods. There is one true Church, consisting of true born-again believers in Christ, yet there are many false churches. So why do you think it’s so wrong to teach that there is one true Bible, yet many false “bibles”?

8. Isn’t it true that you believe God inspired His holy words in the “originals,” but has since lost them, since no one has a perfect Bible today?

9. Isn’t it true that when you use the term “the Greek text” you are being deceitful and lying, since there are MANY Greek TEXTS (plural), rather than just one?

There are some good folks that are kjv 1611 only.  After expressing my thoughts on the subject I was ask 10 questions. I will give my answer to all 10.,

While I have address this issue several times over the years, I  again took time to do a little research and study this week.  I think I am up to 40 pages of research on this issue from both points of view.

That is a good one. You are saying there are no errors in the kjv!   I would agree that the kjv does not have any error as to the doctrines of the Bible. I would never tell a person to stop reading the kjv. So what is wrong with the kjv? If I were not a preacher and a student of the Bible, I would have problems with understanding the meaning of a lot of the Bible. I can read just about any passage and not really understand the meaning of the text. That is why I study a lot. The problem is not the kjv as much as the understanding of the text itself.
So why do you read from other versions? Are you not afraid that you are reading a false bible? No. I have yet to read the NASV, the NIV, or the ESV, or others and found myself thinking that I have had the wrong doctrinal understanding of salvation, or justification, or Christ, or God or Heaven or Hell. I have found no false teaching in those I have mention. They have not lead me to believe that Jesus was not God. That Adam and Eve were not real, That God was not found in the O>T> That salvation was the same in the OT and in the NT. That Jesus is the theme of the OT. That Jesus is God in the Flesh.

The kjv 1611 folks  want us to believe that the kjv is perfect in every way. They want us to believe there is not one single mistake in word or thought. They want to say that God gave the translator perfect sense of the Hebrew and Greek and gave a perfect translation word for word. They want us to say that God only has made the kjv the only translation that he has put his approve on.

And the question ask has been done: There have been correction of words, and a better translation given, and have made the words better to understand.

One preacher said “If it was good enough for Paul, it certainly good for me.” He later laugh.

So the question is: Do we have a perfect Bible?  To answer that question, we need to understand what the KJV folks mean by “perfect bible.”

They believe that there is no error in words or in the translation.  They believe that it is as good as the original letters of Paul, Peter and John and Isaiah and Moses.  They believe that God directly gave the translators the very words to put down in their translation. Even the thee and thou and hath, and even the English style of writing and even the words that help bridge the Greek and Hebrew words.

They say that Revelation 22:18-19 speak to the kjv, and that no one word is to be changed.
