YOU BELIEVE THE BIBLE BECAUSE
Charles e. Whisnant, Pastor/Teacher
1A YOU BELIEVE THE BIBLE BECAUSE
1B I know you believe that the Bible you hold in your hand is the Word of God.
2B Because when the Lord saved you, you were regenerated.
3B You believe the Bible for the same reason that you believe the gospel.
4B Because God did a sovereign miracle in your mind and in your heart, and you were drawn to the truth, 1 Corinthians 2:5-12
2A How can that happen? That is a divine miracle.
1B I’ve read the Bible consistently. Since Grandma Nana in 1960 gave me $5.00 to read the Bible
2B But what drives me is my love for the truth, my trust in the truth.
3B All I want to know is, “What does the Bible say?” and the meaning of the Scripture is the Scripture. First John 2:20-27 Al Myers our high school friend found a love for the Bible.
4B You have the mind of Christ. You can think the way God thinks; you can think the way Christ thinks.
5B The more I study the Bible, the more unshakable is the conviction that it is the living, inerrant, authoritative Word of God. We could never know God if He didn’t speak.
3A You can know God in several ways
1B Acts 17 Paul on Mars Hills
2B Romans 1 You can know God by His nature, Romans 2 His creation
3B Psalm 19 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the firmament shows His handiwork.
4A There’s no other salvation, no other way of salvation. People cannot get to heaven without Scripture, without the Bible.
5A Why man needs the Bible: The story of Genesis 3 and the Fall of mankind
1B Satan’s strategy here is progressively very deceptive. It appears initially as sort of a harmless question: “Indeed, has God said, has Elohim said”? That’s the first question in the Bible;the first question in the history of the human race; the first question ever.
2B And the question is designed to start Eve on the path to doubting the Word of God. This is the essence of Satan’s enterprise.
3B Putting prohibitions on what one wants to do is the point of the questions. “What kind of God would be against all these things that we freely want to do?”
4B “The serpent said to the woman,” in verse 4, “You surely will not die.” (God’s a liar.)
6A From Genesis 2 to Today 2015
1B The revelation of the history of Satan’s constant attacks on the Word of God through an endless array of false prophets, false teachers, liars, false apostles, deceivers,
2B The battle over the Inerrency of the Word of God – The Shepherd’s Conference 2015
Biblical inerrancy, as formulated in the “Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy”, is the doctrine that the Bible “is without error or fault in all its teaching”; or, at least, that “Scripture in the original manuscripts does not affirm anything that is contrary to fact”.
3B Attacks against the Bible come from critics who call themselves scholars who attack the veracity (truthfulness) of Scripture.
1C They come from cults who twist and pervert Scripture and supersede Scripture with other books authored by men and devils.
2C Attacks come from cultural compromisers who think that we don’t need to pay attention to the Bible; we need to pay attention to the culture if we’re going to win them.
3C Another writer says, “Clarity is overrated.”
The credibility of the Bible. The truthfulness of the Bible. The reliability of the Biblical record. The claim that the Bible makes of divine inspiration. God is perfect veracity. 100% truthfulness in His claims.
6A We believe in the perspicuity of Scripture.
1B The doctrine of the clarity of Scripture (often called the “perspicuity of Scripture”) teaches that “the meanings of the text can be clear to the ordinary reader, that …
2B Psalms 119:7-9, 105, 130 or the whole 176 verses “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving `the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure,
3B First Corinthians 1:2; Galatians 1:2; Philippians 1:1
4B God has sworn in the Bible that He has spoken the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. The Bible alone is the true Word of God. There’s only one book. God has spoken in one book, the Bible.
5B It is then the singular duty and responsibility of man to hear what is said in this book.
7A It claims to be infallible. That is, God has so inspired His revelation that it is true, sure, safe, reliable, unchanging.
1. Psalm 19:7, “The law of the Lord is,” what? “Perfect.”
2.Psalm 18:30, “As for God, His way is perfect.” Psalm 119, “Your Word is very pure. Your law is truth. All Your commandments are truth. The sum of Your Word is truth. Every one of Your righteous ordinances endures forever, for all Your counsels are righteous.”
3.Psalm 111:7, “All His precepts are sure.”
4.Romans 7:12, “God’s Word is holy, righteous, and good.” And Jesus said in John 10:35, “Scripture cannot be broken.” That was a fascinating text.
5.John 10 where Jesus takes one word out of an obscure psalm, the word “gods,” that one little word, and builds an argument for His deity on that
